Health & Safety Policy
Zero-harm UAV and survey operations — weather minimums, airspace compliance, crew standards and emergency procedures.
MKA Mesh Systems Ltd conducts all drone, LiDAR and geospatial field operations to the highest health-and-safety standards, aiming for zero harm to crew, clients, site workers and the public. This policy applies to all employees, sub-contractors and anyone accompanying MKA operations.
01Management Commitment
Senior management ensures this policy is implemented, resourced and reviewed. Safety takes priority over operational convenience — any crew member has the authority and duty to abort a flight on unacceptable risk.
02Pre-Flight Risk Assessment
A documented risk assessment precedes every operation:
- Map the operating area — terrain, obstructions, populated areas, infrastructure.
- Verify airspace classification and that no TRAs or NOTAMs apply.
- Review forecast wind, gusts, precipitation and visibility for the full operation.
- Identify emergency landing zones in the area.
- Agree a crew and client communication plan.
03Weather Minimums
| Condition | Limit | If exceeded |
|---|---|---|
| Sustained wind | Max 15 m/s (54 km/h) | Ground all aircraft; reschedule |
| Gusts | Max 10 m/s above sustained | Ground; monitor |
| Visibility (VLOS) | Min 5 km | Abort or delay |
| Precipitation | Zero rain / hail / fog | Ground all aircraft |
| Lightning | Any within 20 km | Ground immediately |
| Temperature | −10°C to +45°C | Suspend outside range |
04Airspace Compliance
- No flight within 5 km of a controlled aerodrome without written ATC clearance.
- Max altitude per ANAC and site authorisations (typically 120 m AGL).
- Operations in Visual Line of Sight unless a specific BVLOS authorisation is held.
- Airspace checked the day before and the morning of every operation.
05Crew Requirements
- Pilots hold a valid ANAC Cameroun UAV licence for the operation category.
- Survey crew hold relevant qualifications for their role.
- Minimum 2 crew per operation — a Remote Pilot in Command and a Visual Observer / assistant.
- No operating under the influence of alcohol, drugs or impairing substances.
- No flight operations after more than 10 hours continuous duty.
06Site & Equipment Safety
- Establish a public exclusion zone (min 30 m radius in open areas, larger as needed) marked by barriers or ground crew.
- If uninvolved persons enter the zone in flight, land immediately or manoeuvre to a safe distance.
- Follow all client site safety requirements (PPE, inductions, sign-in).
- Documented pre-flight inspection before every flight; damaged/swollen batteries removed from service.
- Servicing follows DJI guidelines and is logged. Abnormal in-flight behaviour → return-to-home or land.
07Emergency Procedures
- Emergency landing: use the pre-selected zone; clear the flight path; alert site personnel.
- Fly-away / loss of control: cease manual inputs; activate failsafe (RTH/hover); warn people below.
- Crew injury: halt operations; first aid; call emergency services (SAMU 15).
- Battery / equipment fire: never use water on lithium fires; use Class D or dry sand; evacuate.
08Incident Reporting & Training
- Incidents and near-misses logged in writing within 24 hours.
- Reportable events notified to ANAC Cameroun within the prescribed timeframe.
- All crew receive induction training before their first field operation; annual refreshers are mandatory.
- At least one first-aid-trained crew member per field team.
